Hi! I’m Purdy…. and he’s Jack.

It has just occurred to me that some of my favourite songs are about photographs.... let's see...

Pictures of You, The Cure.
Photograph by Nickelback.
Remember When, Wayne Newton.
(Yes, I was a little embarrassed to admit this.)
And of course, Pictures by Ed Sheeran.

So I suppose that says something about me, but don't assume for a minute that I am 'musical'... I can’t even clap in time. Jack, on the other hand, he can definitely keep a beat and could hold his own on Spicks and Specks, given the chance. (Mainly because our TV never gets off ABC Kids and Spicks and Specks is the show that comes on after Hoot and Hootabell have gone to bed.)

I guess you'd call me a City Slicker now. I've traded the farm life on the Murray River for a city life in Perth by the Indian Ocean. I think its true what they say, "You can take the girl out of the country, but you can't take the country out of the girl" and I'd move back  in a heartbeat... if only they had bubble tea.  I grew up in a big, old weatherboard farmhouse and my childhood was full!  Full of fun, full of chaos, full of love and, being one of 8 kids, it was definitely full of noise!

Jack had quite an adventurous childhood, as the son of an Airforce Officer with postings in Hong Kong, Victoria and Western Australia. In-between postings he'd take any opportunity to go crayfishing off the coast of Tasmania with his uncles. Ah... the good old days. We both just wish we had more photographs to keep these memories alive. I think that's why we've been so drawn to family photography. Now, as we are raising our own kids, we are passionate about documenting their days - capturing memories of their childhood. Cue Ed Sheeran...

"We keep this love in a photograph, we made these memories for ourselves, When our eyes are never closing, hearts are never broken and time's forever frozen still..."

We've been on this photographic journey for more than 10 years now. To say we have a passion for photography would be an understatement. This 'obsession' has enabled us to develop a successful business, creating stunning portraits and lifestyle photographs for families across Perth and beyond. We each bring a different perspective and unique style to our sessions. Jack, who started many years ago with film, loves studio photography, photo-journalism and street photography. He brings a 'documentary style' to his sessions, capturing the story and carefully including the little details, knowing that families will look back on these images with fondness.

I absolutely love to take family photographs in beautiful settings with stunning natural light. I love 'Fresh 48' sessions, documenting those first incredible hours and days after the miracle of bringing a new life into the world. My sessions are natural and fun - capturing images that are timeless and that I know will be treasured forever.  As you'll see in our portfolio, we love to work with families that are looking for a natural, authentic, emotive experience. We strive to make sure the photoshoot is a fun, and memorable occasion for everyone. We let the kids be kids. We give them wide open spaces to play. We let mums and dads relax. And because the experience is fun and easy-going and not awkward, the essence of each family and the personality of each individual shines through.
